For decades, commercial fire alarm systems have meant one thing: wires. Kilometers of cable running through walls, ceilings, and conduits. Days or weeks of installation. Disrupted operations. And for historical or heritage buildings — a near-impossible challenge. That’s been the reality of EN 54-compliant fire safety in Europe.
Ajax Systems is changing that. The company — already well known for its wireless intrusion protection systems — has launched the EN54 Line: a fully wireless fire detection and alarm system designed for commercial and municipal buildings. The lineup already includes 15 devices and 3 accessories — all certified to EN 54 standards — and continues to grow. It’s the first time a wireless system of this scale has entered the commercial fire safety market with full European certification.
This isn’t just another product launch. It’s a fundamental shift in how commercial fire systems are designed, installed, and maintained.
📘 What Is EN 54 and Why Should You Care?
EN 54 is a series of European standards that define the requirements for fire detection and fire alarm systems in buildings. It covers everything — from smoke detectors (EN 54-7) and heat detectors (EN 54-5) to control panels (EN 54-2), visual alarm devices (EN 54-23), and voice alarm systems (EN 54-16).
If you operate a commercial building in the EU — an office, school, hospital, warehouse, retail space, or public facility — your fire alarm system must comply with the relevant parts of EN 54. It’s not optional. The standard is harmonized under the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR), meaning certified products carry the CE marking and can be used freely across all EU member states.
One critical part is EN 54-13, which deals with system compatibility. This standard ensures that all components of a fire alarm system work together as a unified, fault-tolerant solution — not just as individual certified parts. And then there’s EN 54-25, which specifically covers components that use radio frequency links. Until recently, very few fire alarm systems held this certification — leaving wireless options largely limited to residential use.
That’s exactly the gap Ajax set out to close.
🔍 What’s Inside the Ajax EN54 Line?
At the heart of the system is the EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller — a touchscreen control and indicating equipment (CIE) panel that manages the entire fire alarm system. It comes with built-in communicators across four channels: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and two SIM card slots. The CIE provides backup power for 24 or 72 hours depending on the battery model, and delivers alarm notifications to the monitoring station and users in under 3 seconds — more than three times faster than the 10-second requirement of EN 54-21.
But the Fire Hub does something no traditional fire panel can: it also supports EN 50131 (Grade 2) intrusion protection, video surveillance, and automation devices within the same system. One hub, one app, one ecosystem — covering fire, security, cameras, and building automation.
The detector lineup includes the EN54 FireProtect Jeweller series — wireless addressable smoke detectors and heat detectors with Ajax’s patented HazeFlow 2 technology. The dual-spectrum optical sensor distinguishes real smoke from steam or vapor, dramatically reducing false alarms. Heat detectors support multiple EN 54-5 classes (A1, B, C) with rate-of-rise and static modes — all selectable in the app.
The line also features fire alarm sounders and visual alarm devices (VADs), resettable manual call points, and the EN54 I/O Module (2×2) Jeweller — a wireless module with two inputs and two outputs that integrates third-party wired devices like beam smoke detectors, elevator controls, HVAC systems, door locks, and emergency lighting into the Ajax ecosystem.
For larger or more complex sites, the EN54 Fire ReX Jeweller range extender expands wireless coverage via both radio and Ethernet. Up to five extenders per system can boost coverage to up to 35 km² — enough for warehouse complexes, multi-building campuses, or sprawling heritage sites.
The entire EN54 Line is certified to EN 54-13, confirming that all components have been tested and validated as a complete, interoperable system — not just as individual products.
🚀 Why This Changes Everything
Installation in hours, not days. Every device mounts on a SmartBracket panel in minutes — no need to open the enclosure. Configuration is done through the Ajax mobile or desktop app. No cable runs, no complex programming logic, no outdated configuration tools. For buildings that are already operational, this means minimal disruption. For historical or heritage buildings where cable routing is impractical or prohibited — it’s a game-changer.
One system for everything. Traditional setups require separate systems for fire, intrusion, and surveillance — each with its own control panel, its own installer, its own maintenance contract. Ajax unifies fire detection (EN 54), intrusion protection (EN 50131 Grade 2), video surveillance, and automation under a single CIE. This simplifies operations for building owners and creates real efficiencies for installation and monitoring companies.
Visual alarm verification. When a fire alarm triggers, Ajax MotionCam detectors can provide photo or video verification of the event. Monitoring station operators and facility staff see what’s actually happening — reducing false dispatch costs and enabling faster, more informed emergency response.
Wireless range and battery life. Devices communicate with the Fire Hub at distances up to 1,700–1,800 meters in open space. Batteries last 4 to 7 years without replacement, and the system continuously monitors battery health, notifying you well in advance when a swap is needed.
Alarm delivery under 3 seconds. Ajax’s proprietary Jeweller radio protocol delivers confirmed alarms to the CIE in under 3 seconds. The EN 54-21 standard requires this within 10 seconds — Ajax exceeds it by a wide margin.
👥 Who Is This For?
The EN54 Line is aimed at a wide range of users: commercial building owners looking for a unified fire and security system at a lower total cost, security installers who want faster project delivery and easier commissioning, service and monitoring companies seeking more efficient remote maintenance, and facility managers at heritage or historical sites where wired systems simply aren’t viable.
Whether it’s a small café, a retail store, an office building, a school, or a large warehouse — the system scales from compact single-hub setups to complex multi-site deployments.

Final Thoughts
Ajax has already proven that wireless security systems can match — and exceed — the reliability of wired alternatives. With the EN54 Line, they’re making the same case for commercial fire safety: fully certified, faster to deploy, easier to maintain, and more versatile than anything the market has seen before.
For anyone involved in commercial fire safety in Europe — whether you’re a building owner, installer, or monitoring provider — this is worth paying attention to.
